Save the Bees

Until I read about our shortage of bees, I had not noticed that people rarely plant flowers these days. Once it was brought to my attention, I started looking around ... beautiful homes no longer have flower boxes or formal gardens or hanging baskets anymore. Instead, the yards are decorated with evergreens, hostas, shrubs and other easy-to-care for plants.

While it looks nice, and saves the homeowners time, it does little to help our bees.

We need the bees to pollinate our gardens so we can grow squash, tomatoes and spinach. Without their help, we will not have any produce. And, without enough food for them, they will not hang out in our gardens.

I have been pondering this dilemma for the past year or so ... when I was challenged to create a page inspired by the Dr. Seuss book, "The Lorax," I thought it would be a good time to record my efforts to help the bees -- perhaps we can save them before they all follow the way of the trees in "The Lorax".

I used the colors found on the cover of the book ... Raspberry Grid Paper, with accents of green, orange and yellow.

I also used the font Doctor Soos, that is similar to the font used in the book.

I took a little liberty with the words, like Dr. Seuss may have done, and changed the spelling of the word please. And, I attempted to give the journaling the same rhythm and rhyme that Seuss used.

I wanted to use the Daisy Corner CornerStone on my page, as well. It seemed to fit perfectly with my theme, but the white center bothered me. Normally, I would use it as a journaling block or to put in the date, but neither of those options worked on this page.

So, I used a 1" punch to punch out a portion of a leftover photo and inserted it into the center of the CornerStone.

I like the way it turned out ... what do you think?
