MMDT Challenge #12: Summer Break

This was the alphabet challenge. We needed to find a unique way to showcase letters of the alphabet.

I tossed several ideas aside before this idea finally hit me ... I thought it would be fun at the beginning of summer to showcase what my niece and nephew planned to do over the summer.

I asked them to draw the title for my page on the road with sidewalk chalk and then climbed up on a ladder and photographed them with their images.

During this process, my niece was picking on her younger brother about the way he spelled "va-ca". Wanted to put an end to the teasing before the pouting began, I went to intervene. As I walked by her drawing, I started laughing. She had forgotten the second "m" in "summer"! Boy did I have fun teasing her about that one!

Anyhow, she remade her sign and happily posed for me to take the photo. Then, I asked her to get some "props" to show the things she would likely do during the summer -- baseball, football, bikes, Frisbee, etc. Both kids showed everything off, just like I asked.

When we were finished, they started playing Frisbee and then chased each other around. I took advantage of the opportunity and took my favorite photo (the one I put in the center of the page) without them knowing it.

Over the course of the evening, my nephew got a splinter in his foot. He sat down to wait for his grandfather to get the splinter-remover kit. He looked so sad and tired, I couldn't resist taking one more picture -- the one in the lower left where he looks bored to death -- since I am sure there will be moments during the summer when both kids are bored.

I LOVE all these photos, Candy! The one in the center is so perfect! But the others are great as well. Your layout is very well-balanced and I love the colors and journaling. Great job!

I had to laugh at the picture of your nephew. It reminded me of a dark period my stepdaughter went through when she was sullen and hated all of us for a while! I love the idea of the chalk title!

Love it! Was waiting for someone to use sidewalk chalk. This page spells f-u-n. Nice idea to get on a ladder to photo...but be careful my hubby is still on crutches, non weight bearing for 5 more weeks then rehab starts. His summer doesn't look like much fun. Enough of that...where's the chickens? Was glad to see some kids having fun! Great job :)

Can you say Papparazzi? Going up on a ladder to take the photos was terrific. I too like the photo in the center and your one inch squares work great on this page.

What fun! I love candid shots. I would say that 98% of the shots I take are candid. Those captured moments do so much to convey story. It gives a sense of movement, of action, and draws the viewer into the story on the page. This is true "slice of life" that will be cherished memories years from now. Your design, layout and color selection enhances the story you have to tell. I am enchanted.

I like the center photo too - really shows that typical older/younger sibling relationship. Love the page - it is full of energy. The chalk photo titles are great and I like where you wrote the summer plans on the photo of your nephew. Lots of great inspiration. :)

It's almost like a "what I did on my Summer vacation" page in reverse! Great sidewalk chalk art in the title block and lots of activity to illustrate. The Grid color is a nice balance with all the shades of green Candy!
