MMDT Challenge #8: The 70s

This time, we were challenged to create a page inspired by the decade we were born in. The only other requirement was that we had to use at least one current photo.

Rather than recap the 1970s, I wanted to just borrow the feel of the era. I spent some time going through the culture, fashion and home decor of the 70s -- WHAT were we thinking!?? Men do NOT look good in belted tunics and plaid pants. Just saying ...

I decided to pull the colors and feeling from book covers, posters and advertisements. Here are a few of my inspirational images ...

That done, I was stumped on what to photograph.

And then it hit me ... I love to take pictures of my cats, but I rarely do anything with the photos. After all, there are only so many pictures of cats laying around a person can have.

Since they missed the 1970s, I thought they might enjoy a little trip back in time through the bright colors of the 70s, so I took close up photos of each one and created this ...

Winifred was helping me scrapbook that day, so I made her "pretty" by tying some twine around her neck. Misty was much harder to photograph that day, so I didn't get the position I wanted, but it was close ...

I used strips of brightly colored cardstock and some QuicKutz dies to create the look. I tried to mimic the title from the book "Love Story". This was the closest I could come using the fonts I had for my Cricut.

Although the page ended up being extremely simple, it is definitely the brightest page I have ever created! And, I did enjoy the journey and time spent researching, remembering and laughing at the 1970s.

What a simple yet very creative layout! I love this! The colors are great...almost reminds me of something else from that era...remember the tests they used to do on tv with all the stripes and the ear-piercing tone from the Emergency Broadcast System...This is only a test...please stand by...

Wow...Peter Max...there's a flashback! The vivid colors really pop on the black and the grid format shines in your pattern.
