2012 MMDT May Challenge #1

May Photo Challenge: Pick a Color

Passionate About Purple

Okay, starting again, lost the last write up gone forever in cyber-space.

I began this challenge early by taking photos of all the colors in the Crayola 8! I wasn't sure what color I should do. Should I break out of my comfort zone again? Blue is my default color for clothing and Blue and Green are my home dec colors. So I hit the produce dept at the market where all the colors were so vibrant. Things around the house were next and then on to the flowers that were blooming early snapping lots of outdoor shots too.

I began to notice a pattern developing from my Cadbury candy tins to tartans, purple was standing out above the others. From the lilacs and lavendars in the my garden to the deep purple of the eggplant. I had colored pencils, pens and paints, embossing powders and chalks. We had amethyst jewelery and lavendar pearls, even a purple loveseat and my purse too!  There were towels and tubs and  candles...jams and jellies and juices as well. The only problem was that while all were purple...they were all different shades! So that's what you'll see in my layout on the crayons I've named a few...there's eggplant, amethyst, indigo, heather, lavendar, lilac, grape, plum orchid, thistle, violet and periwinkle to name a but a few!

The crayons are made with cardstock from Bazill Monochromatics, Trios and Doodlebug lines, as well as shades from Color Mates Groovy Grape collection. I used white 1" Mosaic Moments Paper Tiles to give a nice solid background for the pieced point. I began with Page Pattern #46 and then made a few adjustments, making a few 1x3's 2x2's. I also turned page 2 on it's side from the pattern.

In my research I also looked up the meaning of each color and had plans to incorporate each in the layout. Purple is associated with Royalty, Courage, Bravery, Inspiration, Creativity, Passion and Faith. In the end I landed up editing them out again and summed up the layout in the title Passionate About Purple.

and a few close ups...

and a few of the macro shots...

What a great idea and LO. I love how you created the crayons to bring in the color aspect with the photos.

Andrea, your creativity never ends! So many beautiful shades of purple and you found so many ways to showcase the beautiful items you chose.

This one is a total knock-out, as in knocked it out of the park. Love the crayons.

Okay Andrea, you have really outdone yourself, and I didn't think that was possible. I can't imagine that I could ever come up with something so clever or have the time to do all the research, such as the meanings of the colors, etc. Are you campaigning for Mosaic Queen, or what? If so, you get my vote on this one!!

Andrea - you inspire me every month. The different shades of purple and the objects chosen to reflect the colors is simply ingenious. The crayon pointing to the flower, eggplant, piece of wool, etc. is very clever. Great job.
