Orange Rules

While driving my son to and from various activities, I stopped to take a few photos.

Son: What are you taking pictures of?

Me: Orange things.

Son: Why?

Me: For my next scrapbook challenge.

Son: Orange, why orange?

Me: Because we had to choose one of the 8 basic crayola crayon colors and I chose orange.

Son: Why orange?

Me: I don't know...I guess I just like orange.

Son: Are you going to take a picture of your orange Crocs?

Me: Probably.

Son: Why didn't you choose blue or green?

Me: I guess they seemed to obvious. And besides, orange is my new favorite color.

Son: You're taking a picture of that sign? These pictures don't mean anything. They're not relative to anything, they're just random pictures.

Me: That's ok. The challenge is to take lots of pictures of things in your color.

Son: In Odyssey of the Mind, everything has to relate to something. Most things even have a double meaning. Your stuff doesn't have meaning.

Me: It doesn't have to have meaning. It's about the creative design process. Going out of your comfort zone. Expanding your skills. Doing something different. Seeing things in a different way

Son: I don't get it.

Me: That's ok. You don't have to get it. As long as I get it. We're here. Get out of the car. I have to take more pictures.

Love the conversation AND the layout...it is really bright and colorful - even if the main color is orange...I'm gonna have to get involved in these monthly challenges...just to get me to thinking outside the box!! But, have challenges here locally thatI am involved with...what's one more?! Thanks for sharing!!

Wow, what a striking layout! I love the whole thing, but I especially loved the conversation which you included. I actually laughed out loud sitting at my computer. I have three grown sons and three grandsons, and I can just imagine that I would have encountered the same type of comments had I taken one of them with me when I take pics for some of our challenges. The girls would be another story totally . . .

Oh Beth, aren't teen boys great? loved the conversation, thanks so much for adding it! My son has learned to just raise an eyebrow, shake his head and go on. What a great collection of Orange! This could be a layout for Food Network! (the Crocs are so Mario!)Great Job!

The conversation was priceless. You need to make a page including the conversation such as a two-page spread. That would be awesome. Talk about journaling!!!

I didn't get there were so many orange things around. And I loved the conversation--exactly teenaged son to mom. The last line was priceless!
