Starlings nesting time

We have starlings trying to build a bird nest in our barbeque grill. I noticed they were working on the nest so I put rolled newspaper in the end to stop them from re entering. The other end has the wire brush Pat uses to clean the food racks.

They are persistant birds 2 days later they are still coming with grass and twigs in their beaks trying to get inside and finish.  They do not realize I am saving them from an emergency exit later on.

Well, I was wrong we did not prevent them from building the nest. Korbin wanted the grass that was sticking out the sides of the grill( from when I opened it previously) to be cleaned out so... I opened the grill to find much more than the time before, and 2 blue eggs. I thought Robins were the only birds that layed blue eggs. I was wrong again. Now to look up, transplanting a bird nest, online.

I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago with a squirrel. We watched all day while he/she brought mouthfuls of leaves to the grill and stuffed them in the hole. He'd go inside and any leaves that were dropped he'd pull them in with his little paws. We let him stay the winter and then on Memorial Day weekend ousted him. You wouldn't believe how many leaves were in that grill! I did capture pictures of him building the nest and the leaves when we opened the grill.

exactly right Tami, And to add to the story she came back today with another beak full of something. I went for the camera but she left before I got back.
