Beginnings

I guess my goal is to write down my memories, dates, times, names, events to the best of my recollection for my family photos.

I have 3 generations of family photos and it is getting overwhelming to remember the particulars. I have photos that I don't have information on, photos that have only a date, photos that have only a location. I recognize family in some but know nothing about the photo. I want to interview family members for information  regarding such photos.

Why do I do this? I am a scrapbooker. I see value in preserving my family's ancestral history through photos for the generations to come, God willing.

I look through  old photos and wonder how they felt that day, why take that picture and just the emtions of the people in the pictures. Did they even like each other? Were they the best of friends? Was that a favorite aunt? How long did you date? Where did you meet each other? So as a scrapbooker, I try to think of my future audience and what they might like to know about the same photos I see. We'll see how it goes.

Love your passion for getting the stories behind the pictures! I too have many many pictures that were my grandparents and my parents. Since we just moved, alot is still packed away and I am needing to consolidate them and get them into some kind of order. I also wanted to "interview" my mom (last of my family except an uncle and two cousins)about some of the family in pictures - but unfortunately she passed away a few months ago. So, I am digging around and finding things based on what I am finding; and will be getting with the cousins, one of whom my mom helped raise.

Gorgeous picture! I know how you feel about family photos! I recently rescued my grandparents old photos (boxes and boxes and bags and boxes of photos). They were going to be trashed. Now, I have so many ideas for scrapbooks and layouts that it's a bit overwhelming. Hurray to you for preserving your family's heritage!
