MMDT #12 - Inspired by… The Alphabet

WOW!!  For this project, we were to:

"Take pictures that include Alphabet letters  - think of a message or a word you’d like to share - let it inspire the photos you take.   In your Journella Post you should tell us about your “Alphabet journey”."

This started out to be a bit of a scary project, then I got my inspiration!  The first part came from a phrase I see everyday in my house (it's on the wall!), the second part came when I remembered the letters over my friend's doorway of her house.

Here is a photo of the phrase:

And here is one of the doorway inspiration:

I started taking photos of all kinds of signs and items, keeping in mind the letters that I would need.  Then, my husband had to go to Las Vegas on business and we decided to make a weekend of it.  WELL....let me tell you....I had most of the letters already cut out of the photos, but LAS VEGAS, come on....the alphabet mecca of the country, I think!  If you can't find most of the letters of the alphabet on one large sign or another, you're not looking very hard!!  I took TONS of new photos and came back with a renewed zeal for this project!  I started printing and cutting away again!  (We just went from June 12th - 16th, so this has been a bit of a rush!)  I did use a few letters created by objects rather than off of signs (ie. the Vs, and the I)...I would have liked more like that, but try to find a G in nature! As it is, I now have a page with the alphabet letter, but also almost every letter carries a memory with it!

As usual, I am a two-page layout gal, so I did the phrase on the first page,

then used a myriad of other sign photos on the second page as a kind of "life lessons" page.

I am dedicating this to the other members of the 2013 MM Design Team...some amazing women who are inspiring to me!

Just a tidbit of information!  The grid paper is granite.  I tried about 5 different colors before settling on this...one of my favorites!  Most of the rest is photos with the exception of the handwritten little blurb, and the little saying block, which is from Graphic 45's Kraft Reflections Collection "Quote...Unquote".

The patterned squares and the other phrases are not from printed paper...they are from photos that I took of a photo box I bought at Michael's some time ago!

The "enjoy life" square is a magnet I have on my screen door (so you can tell when it's closed and not walk through it!), and the "journey" phrase is a photo I took from the Hertz rental car folder!  Weird where we sometimes get our inspiration, huh?! :)

I could tell you where all of the letter photos are from, too....but I think this might get a bit long!  See if you can guess where some of them are from!

Anyway, hope you enjoy!  Love and hugs and great life moments to my sisters of the design team...and the rest of you, too!

I believe you fully embraced the essence of this challenge -- I like the direct message and then the message you created from the signs you found. The layout totally rocks.

Lori, this is an awesome layout! You totally embodied evrything about letters/words in the layout! I love your page of words, so inspirational and up lifting. I cannot say enough about it. I really, really enjoyed reading about it and just looking at it!!! Great, great job!

WOW Lori!!! I totally LOVE this layout! So fun!! And thank you for the dedication!! You are definitely an inspiration to me as well! Love the vegas signs and all the other creative letters you found/created. The bird as the V is amazing!! I had the hardest time finding a tree for my Y, and you make it all look so easy. So colorful and alive! This page really makes me smile. Fantastic job!!!

I really like this layout! Just too clever. The first page with letter is cool and the second page of words/signs balances it nicely. Thanks for the story too :)

Andrea, I think I am going to do a second 2 page layout with the words LAS VEGAS (in letters from signs or such!)across the middle and some of the photos around it! I was going to use "regular" photos on this one, but had so many signs that I just used THEM! :) Thanks for the inspiration, Tami!

You really put your thinking cap on for this challenge, Lori! I love the idea of finding the letters in nature and unusual objects. Always thought that would be fun to do. This will be a unique memory of your trip to Vegas...might be an idea to do something like this for other places we visit with details we don't usually scrap that a a part of the whole experience! Great inspiration!

What a bit of luck to be in Vegas before this challenge! I can't think of a more perfect place to take photos of letters. Using the "V" shapes from the tree and the bird - very clever!
