MMDT Challenge #5

I love this photo of my son looking over the river. He amazes me at his ability to enjoy life. He has never been bored -- he finds a way to make the best of every situation and truly enjoys listening to people talk or taking in the view.

I've had these photos for some time (since 2006!!) and have never added them to a layout. However, when I saw this month's challenge: Bamboo paper, page pattern #52, a large title and patterned paper, I knew it was time to finally scrapbook these photos!

This layout calls for eight photos ... I only had seven, so I created a journaling block where the other photo should be.

I loved how the soft green paper accented the bright colors in the photos and I didn't want to take away from the look. So, I used a very subtle background paper (it is actually the back side of the Valentine's Day line from Authentique) as a background on my title, behind the large photo of Christopher and as the journaling block. It has soft writing and distressing on it and I feel it gives much more depth to a layout than plain cardstock might.

Here's a close up so you can read the journaling (assuming you can read my writing. I think it is important to record a person's handwriting so every once in a while I journal by hand!)

Every photo tells a story and the patterned paper is great. I thought you inked the paper. It is great and very soft. I especially love the photo on the bridge.

Beautiful job Candy! Really neat to add the journaling block to explain the castle. Great pictures of your son too.

This setting exhudes peace; a gentle memory of a slow-motion moment. Your photos are exceptional and the way you put them together for your story says it all.

Nice job, Candy! Your son looks so thoughtful...nice photo of him! The others are nice, too. I like the hand journaling, and I really like that background paper...subtle yet effective!

Really enjoyed your pictures and layout. I love bridges and water and you did a great job laying out the story for us. Two thumbs up!

Nice layout - love the clean even look. Handwritten journaling will evoke memories later on, a reminder of YOU.

I love the photo of the castle in the bottom right hand corner- it looks awesome! I also like the photos of the bridge and the way you distressed the title.

I love your page! And your son seems like a treasure! I almost never journal by hand because I don't like my handwriting. Im trying to get better at it and your layout inspired me to do just that!

Candy, don't you know, a journaling block is almost always an essential element?!! LOL! I'm glad you did add it though, it adds to the story you have written about, love knowing about the John Wayne connection, I'll be checking the credits on my flicks a bit closer now! Would love to take a trip up to see an USA castle. The Bamboo Grid is a very good backdrop for these photos. The handwriting gives it a personal touch too, great job!

Love that you included handwritten journaling. Curwood castle looks like a very pleasant place to visit.
