2012 MMDT December Photo Challenge: The Year in Review

It’s been an amazing year and our final challenge for the year 2012 was to take a look back and review the photos we've taken this year and share some of the highlights.

Our biggest event for the year has been the birth of my first grandchild, Isabella, in February. It seems that most of my photos have been of her! However each event we’ve been to and places we’ve traveled to have yielded their fair share. The events from the year included in the photos are the Medina Ice Festival, Isabella’s birth, Memorial Park in Spring, The Creation Museum, Bright Lights Workday, Baking for VBS, The Ohio Highland Games, Isabella going to BSF with Hannah and I for the first time, trip to Canada and the relatives we were visiting (including a photo of my cousin’s new grandson with his great-granddad!)  Bright Lights Father-Daughter Dinner, Birthday’s for Hannah and Andrew, Libby’s car accident and the search for a new car, Chik-fil-A Appreciation Day, some of the many flowers I’ve taken photos of,  our Thanksgiving meal and at least one photo of each of my five kids, often holding Isabella!

The first version of the “great idea” consumed a huge amount of time and planning and soon proved to be less than what I was looking for, for this final assignment of 2012. Tempted to scratch everything and begin again I chose instead to sleep on it in the hopes that once I was less tired and began fresh things would look better.

Well, all was not lost, but reworked. I began again with a white 12 x 12 Mosaic Moments Grid and included paper tiles punched with the 1" punch from several metallic shades of DCWV paper (silver, gold, champagne and gunmetal). Then sticky face tiles that I've added glitter from Martha Stewart to really make them shine were added. Why metallic papers? Well, the one thing I seem to associate with New Year is a huge metallic disco ball…and that’s the inspiration for the background tiles.

while the sticker is still on the sheet sprinkle glitter a little at a time and rub into the surface until you have a smooth burnished finish...you have to fill in all the spaces...or at lest, most of them :-)

Close-up of tiles...sticky face tile covered in glitter in the center.

The photos are arranged in a pattern so that the numbers for the year 2012 would be revealed. The “blank” spaces were filled with various tiles including three larger tiles to make notes of what are included in the photos, and one for a title. Two of the smaller square sticky face tiles were covered in glitter and cut in half for photo corners for the title block. On a previous occasion I found that rubbing the glitter into the sticky tile gives a smooth burnished look that really stands out.

This photo shows off the shimmer of the glitter covered sticky face tile very well. The title was done with a Sharpie water based paint metallic pen, extra fine point in gold.

Thanks for taking a look back with me on 2012. I hope you all have a great Christmas, time with family and friends and that you'll join us here again in 2013. Keep safe...

thanks for stopping by...

Here's a photo to show you what it looked like as I planned...before I made the 2012 blend into the rest of the metallic bling tiles!

So now maybe you'll see the 2012 a little easier!

I thought I'd take this opportunity to post here to thank you all for the kind words and encouragement you have given me this past year. This has been a wonderful experience and I have come to feel as though you are all friends. I have looked forward to all your layouts for each challenge and to see how you approached the same subject as I did. Like others have said, we've learned from each other, thank you for bringing your best! I hope you will continue to stop in and to contribute to the story board as the new year unfolds. I'll be here, continuing on with the new team as their captain, and I think some new responsibilities...so please stop back. There will be 11 Design Team Members, and lots to see! And don't forget to participate in the open challenges!!! Have a wonderful New Year! You've made 2012 so very special to me!

Andrea, you've truly inspired me with your talent. Honestly, I've learned a lot from you and plan to scraplift one or two of your ideas in the future! I love the way you took the time to explain the process of creating your pages and taught us how to do it ourselves. Your work is amazing and I look forward to seeing more of it in 2013! Happy new year!

Love it, love it, love it! I was, like Tammy, so focused on the details I missed the bigger picture--2012. I am sure "in person" it is much more noticeable. I hope you will keep posting your creations, because I get really good ideas from your talent. Also, thanks for the nice note you sent last week. Our internet service has been out for over a week.

Oh wow - I didn't catch at first that the photos were arranged to show 2012 until I read further down - what a great idea!

Awesome is another word to describe this glittery unique layout. Thanks for sharing.

Sleeping on it was a good idea. I love the fact that you always seem to ramp up your art with the unexpected. It's your attention to detail that I find so exciting. This is great.

I didn't see the 2012 at first either. I was so focused on the details (like the glitter) but then noticing the numbers was an extra treat! Very Cool!

I love how you arranged the photos into the 2012. I did not see it at first and had to do a double take. Spectacular!
